Integrated Tourism Database PDF Print E-mail

Background Information

The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) is responsible for managing a wealth of industry data spanning market intelligence such as general market leads and mailing lists; registries and records including hotels, tour guides, retirees, cruise ships, and time shares; and statistical data such as protected area visitation, visitor arrivals and visitor expenditure, in addition to the financial and transaction data of the organization itself. This data is invaluable to policy makers and the private sector for effective advance planning, successful marketing, and to reinforce awareness of the fundamental value of tourism to the country of Belize.

Current management of this data, however, is faced with numerous constraints, making data input difficult and limiting the possibility for the extraction of meaningful data on a timely basis.

STP INVESTMENT:

The STP will invest US$200 000 towards the development and implementation of an integrated tourism database system which will serve to consolidate data into a useful repository customized for access by industry stakeholders, and policy makers in user friendly formats. The database will include web self-care modules to allow the development of transaction processing using web technology and access to data in real time.

Overall Goal:

"To effectively plan, document, design and develop a comprehensive tourism database management system which will integrate all sub systems and expand operations remotely. The core system focus will be on BTBs internal business processes, extending BTB capacity to a modern unified national data system, with introductory training and ongoing technical support."
